Today #mypubliclandsroadtrip hikes Professor Creek in Mary Jane Canyon—a lesser-known slot canyon just outside of Moab, Utah. Mary Jane Canyon provides the perfect stream-eroded path for Professor Creek, a tributary that runs from the La Sal Mountains all the way to the Colorado River. This is what makes the Mary Jane Canyon hike unique -- Professor Creek IS the trail. Some locals say that Professor Creek flows year-round, however, but water levels vary depending upon drought conditions in the southwest. On a good day, a hike through Mary Jane Canyon offers quintessential views of the southwest desert. On an ever better day, that hike leads to a plentiful waterfalls, with views and a break from the desert heat. Photo: Hannah Cowan, BLM Utah |
