Summary edit

Description
English: The ER-2 crew rolls the aircraft’s nose — containing MABEL — away from its body, so engineers could work on the instrument. In July 2014, NASA’s Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar, or MABEL, flew over Alaska on the high-altitude ER-2 aircraft to take elevation measurements of melt ponds, cracked sea ice, boreal forests and more. Scientists will use the data to develop computer programs for the upcoming Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission.
