書名は題簽による。中国の兵法書7種の集成。北宋の元豊年間(1078-85)に孫子、呉子、司馬法、三略、六韜、尉繚子、唐太宗李衛公問対の七種の代表的な兵書を選んで「七書」と称し、軍事学の基本的な経典と定めたもので、わが国への伝来は鎌倉時代に遡ると推定される。本写本は、七書のうち「三略」「六韜」の二書を欠く。「司馬法」の巻末尾題下に「右朱点者以環翠軒自筆自点之本写之」と朱書されており、環翠軒は清原宣賢(1475-1550)の号であるから、室町時代末期の写本と推定される。また、書中の筆跡から、複数の手になるものであることが分かる。京都の円光寺旧蔵書。
