赤本1冊。鱗形屋版。題名を「ふんふく茶釜(ルビ=ちやかま)」と書き3ウ4オの茶釜になった狢(狸の誤称)の場面を大きく描いた題簽のある完本。昔話もので、草双紙としては赤小本『京東山化け狐』の系統とみられる。東山殿の茶道坊主ぶん福が秋の山へ行楽に出、谷底を見ると古狢が藻を被っていろいろに化ける。ぶん福は羽織を被って「風流相生獅子」などを歌いながら踊り、狢も踊るところを捕まえて縛る。ぶん福は、仲間のぶん徳、福阿弥、ぶんさいに獲物を自慢し「晩には狢の吸い物で飲もう」と提案。ぶん福は狢を俎に乗せ料理しようとする。狢は空死に(そらじに)して油断させ、逃げ出したが四人の坊主に追い詰められ、叢に逃げ込んで茶釜に化ける。四人は茶釜を拾い持ち帰って湯をわかす。狢は次第に熱くなり正体を現す。四人はあきれて「ぶんぶく茶釜に毛が生えた」と囃したてる。四人の坊主が狢に化かされた事を東山殿は不届きと思し召され、全員裸にして追出す。四人が当てもなく野に伏せっていた時、狢は例の八畳敷を広げ「どうだ坊主ども、暖かで良かろ」と四人に被せる。四人は夢うつつに生臭く心地わるい。茶道坊主たちは難なくまた狢を捕らえ、御前に引き据えてご褒美にあずかる。という大らかな作品。近藤清春画『ぶんぶく茶釜』の改作とみられ、「風流相生獅子」の文句があるので享保19年(1734)以降の成立。狢が四人に八畳敷を被せる場面など、歌川国芳の戯画「狸の」シリーズはこれら『ぶんぶく茶釜』の赤本による着想ではないかと想像している。(木村八重子)参考資料:『近世子どもの絵本集』江戸篇
