赤本2冊(合1冊、全10丁)。題簽欠のため元の題名は不明。覆表紙に「赤本鼠嫁入」、帙に「鼠のよめ入 赤本」とあるのは後に付けた題名。「鼠よめ入」は本文の版心にある題名。本文第1・6丁に「鶴の丸」の商標があり、鶴屋の版。画作者は不明。赤本の「嫁入りもの」は異類を擬人化して婚礼の次第を絵解きする作品で、鼠や狐や鳥などの異類が一種のものや十二支のように混在するものがある。中でも「鼠」による「嫁入もの」は何種類かあり、本作も「鼠の嫁入」ものの1つ。9場面から成り、各場面が絵と会話で展開し、会話におかしみや時代性が多分に盛り込まれている。1.嫁を迎える家で、掃除や水打ちをする使用人たち。2.諸白、結綿、熨斗鮑など結納の品が届き、両家の挨拶。3.結納の祝膳。料理番、下働の膳へ祝儀の銭。4.女鼠たちの化粧、裁ち縫い。「五倍子は柳や」「急ぐ時は三べん歌を詠んで裁つと言いやす」などのおしゃべりに、商品や風習が書き込まれる。5.料理の場。鮹を洗う者、鯛を焼く者、鴨の毛をむしる者、竈の番をする者。料理しながら酒呑む者もいる。6.嫁入行列。「今夜は飲んだり貰ったりだ」などしゃべりながら道具を担ぐ奴(やっこ)、途中で受け渡しをする両家の宰領、「嫁御は果報な人だ、良い男を持たれました」という肩衣姿など。7.島台を飾った婚礼の場。恥ずかしがる綿帽子の花嫁、配膳に戸惑う女鼠たちなど。8.出産の場。座産の産婦、匙を持つ薬師(くすし)、盥に両足を入れて産湯(うぶゆ)を使わす取り上げ婆、産着(うぶぎ)持つ女鼠、胞衣(えな)の始末、煎薬する女鼠など。9.宮参り。太鼓を叩く神官、幣を振り、鼠らしく「猫の災難逃れるやうに」と祈る巫女(みこ)鼠、大黒様に祈る参詣鼠。この作品の特色は、嫁入行列が上冊から下冊へと続いて6頁(3丁分)にも及び、その左端で迂回し非常に長い行列になっている。(木村八重子)参考資料:『赤本黒本青本書誌―赤本以前之部』(木村八重子著,青裳堂書店、平成21刊)の「鼠の嫁入り」もの。
