西川祐信画の風俗絵本。3巻。寛保元年(1741)3月、大坂毛利田庄太郎刊、大本合1冊。序に、書肆の勧めにより、好評であった前作『絵本常盤草』の後続作として、和歌を拾い上げながら、当時の艶っぽい女性の姿態を写したことをいう。上巻は春、夏、中巻は秋、冬、恋、下巻は恋の和歌を配するが、和歌は類題集に基づいたものか、十三代集や定数歌が多い。歌と絵の親密性の高さからみて、はじめに和歌を選び、のちそれに合わせて絵を描いたと考えられる。「朝寝髪」の絵のように鈴木春信にそのまま受け継がれた絵柄もあり、恋の切なさに悩みしおれる女性の姿は、江戸の浮世絵師に強い影響を与えた。ほとんどは町人の富家の子女、仲居、端女などの女性達を描いたものとみられ、着物の文様の雛形を克明に描き分けているところが特徴。(鈴木淳)
