本書は、古浄瑠璃、なかでも金平浄瑠璃と称される語り物の正本である。金平浄瑠璃とは、源頼光の家臣、四天王を親とする子四天王、特に坂田金時の子・金平の超人的武勇を描き、悪を亡ぼして秩序を回復するシリーズ物。江戸和泉太夫と作者・岡清兵衛のコンビによって、江戸で爆発的な人気を博した金平浄瑠璃の評判はすぐさま上方に伝わり、江戸・上方を通じての金平浄瑠璃全盛期を築いた。本書の奥付には「寛文[   ]吉日 山本九兵衛板」とあるが、破損のため詳しい刊行年はわからない。本作は、『金平浄瑠璃正本集』第1巻(角川書店)に翻刻されており、掲出本がその底本であるが、同書解題において、「再印本で不鮮明なところが多い」との指摘がある。また、室木弥太郎による同解題では、井上大和少掾(播磨少掾)の段物集に、「頼吉北国落 かけものそろへ」の題名があることから、本書が大和少掾の語り物であることを推定している。本作は江戸和泉太夫の語り物「北国落」を一部改変したもので、坂田金平と一人武者(平井保昌の子・清春)の武勇が示される場面を、「掛物揃」の節事に置き換えている。この改変は、節事を得意とした大和少掾と、上方の浄瑠璃の傾向に合わせたものとも考えられる。蔵書印「高ノ蔵書」、「斑山文庫」(替表紙見返し)から、高野辰之の旧蔵書とわかる。改装後、破損部分の匡郭を補う墨書あり。(田草川みずき)(2021.2)
