Lysiosquilla scabricauda (Lamarck, 1818) - scaly-tailed mantis shrimp at a small patch reef.

This is a mantis shrimp (stomatopod). They're famous for having claws that are used to strike at prey extremely quickly. They also have the # 1 most complex eyes in Kingdom Animalia, which allow them to see standard colors, ultraviolet light, polarized light, and allow them to engage in trinocular depth perception. Mantis shrimp can even detect the presence of cancer (York et al., 2014).

Classification: Animalia, Arthropoda, Crustacea, Malacostraca, Hoplocarida, Stomatopoda, Lysiosquillidae
