Description
English: NSWR 'American Suburban' or 'A' Type 2nd class coach No.LFA 153 (built at Strathfield in 1890), still in largely original condition, at Trainworks, the New South Wales Railway Museum, Thirlmere, 31 March 2016. Designed to an American pattern coach but built in Australia, no less than 856 of these highly regarded coaches were built in 1877-1916 by Clyde Engineering, Hudson Bros, Morrison & Co., and Ritchie Bros., mainly for Sydney suburban services but also in Newcastle and Wollongong. 193 were later converted to trailers for emu's whilst others were converted for branch line or even long distance services! The last were withdrawn in 1977.
