Funeral services were held September 1, 1943 at the chapel of Valhalla cemetery, Milwaukee, for Newton Smith Gordon, 81, for many years editor and publisher of the Barron County News, and later of the News-Shield. Mr. Gordon died August 30, 1943 at St. Luke's hospital in Milwaukee. He was born March 3, 1859 in Richland Center, and is survived by his children, Colonel J. E. Gordon, Army Medical corps, England; Eva L. of Cornell University; Morris E., Milwaukee; Mrs. H. L. Brigham, Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. E. D. Wilkinson, Chicago; and Mrs. E. W. Punk, Oak Park, Illinois.
