Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented. At Schiphol airport a new radar installation has been put into use. The air traffic controllers can use this device to observe the altitude, distance and direction of incoming planes simultaneously. In this newsreel images of the way an air traffic controller "talks down" a Beechcraft with the help of the new radar. SHOTS: - General airport shots: airplanes are parked on the apron; station building and control tower; - int. control tower: air traffic controllers are seated behind their equipment near the windows; - ext. of the small rotatable building where the equipment for the new radar has been placed; - int. small building: vertical and horizontal placed parabolic antennas; high steel cases with technical equipment with meters and buttons; the air traffic controlller is seated behind a control panel; - pilots in the cockpit of a twin-engined airplane ask for landing instructions; the air traffic controller looks at his screens and gives directions; - the airplane approach Schiphol airport and lands; - a Constellation approaches and heads towards the runway. |
