DescriptionNikon S2 Rangefinder (Chrome Dial) with 5cm f-1.4 lens (5585559178).jpg |
-- Nikon S2 rangefinder camera (chrome dial) from 1955 S/N 6138xxx -- NIKKOR-S.C Auto 1:1.4 f=5cm lens (chrome) Taken with a Canon T2i/550D and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens at f/6.3. 39 1/200-second exposures at ISO100 were combined with Zerene Stacker in PMAX mode to make a focus stack (or DOF stack). The subexposures in the DOF stack were spaced 2.5mm apart, using an RRS macro focusing rail. (In the Photoshop version, I included only every other subexposure, since it was taking too long with all 39.) The fuzzy areas in the fake leather and also on the rewind dial are not present in this version, as they were in the stack produced by Photoshop CS4. Note: It appears that a hot pixel in the camera sensor caused a trail of pink spots in the stacked image. This trail of spots was removed with Photoshop. It looks like Zerene Stacker did not preserve the EXIF data, as did CS4. Note: Recent tests have shown that the shutter of this 56 year old camera is still accurate from 1 sec to 1/250 sec. It looks like 1/1000 sec is really about 1/700 sec, unless my methodology is inaccurate with smaller shutter slit sizes. The back of the S2 was removed and a Canon T2i with suitable extension tubes was placed directly behind the shutter opening. The T2i sensor was about 100mm farther back than the film plane, so only macro shots with about 2x magnifiication could be taken using the lens on the S2. The T2i was placed in bulb mode, and the S2 shutter was used to expose shots with the T2i sensor, or the S2 was placed in time mode and the T2i shutter was used to expose the shots.
