Norsk bokmål: Det første møtet med en fremmed. Ca 15 måneder etter at Nansen og Johansen skilte lag med kameratene i Polhavet og ca 3 år etter at de forlot Norge. Frederick George Jackson, britisk offiser, polarforsker og leder for ekspedisjonen til Frans Josefs Land 1894-1897 hilser Fridtjof Nansen. Fotografiet ble arrangert 6 dager etter at møtet faktisk fant sted 17-06-1896. Ett av bildene fra ekspedisjonen med polarskip mot Nordpolen i perioden 24 juni 1893 til 13 august 1896. Etter planen skulle skipet drive i isen med havstrømmer fra Sibirkysten over Nordpolen mot Grønland. I mars 1895 foretok Fridtjof Nansen sammen med en ledsager en hasardiøs skiferd med hundesleder i forsøket på å komme til polpunktet.
English: The first meeting with a stranger. Approximately 15 months after Nansen and Johansen's departure from their friends in the Arctic Ocean, and approximately 3 years after they had left Norway. Frederick George Jackson, British officer and arctic researcher, greets Fridtjof Nansen. The photo was arranged 6 days after the meeting actually took place June 17, 1896. One of the pictures from the expedition with arctic ship toward the North Pole in the period June 24, 1893 to August 13, 1896. According to the plan, the ship was to drift in the ice with the ocean current from the coast of Siberia across the North Pole to Greenland. In March 1895, Fridtjof Nansen, together with a companion, set out with dogsledges on a hazardous expedition on skis, in an attempt to reach the pole itself.

Frederick George Jackson, britischer Offizier, Polarforschern und Leiter der Expedition nach Franz-Joseph-Land 1894-1897 grüsst Fridtjof Nansen. Die Fotografie wurde 6 Tage nach dem die Begegnung am 17.6.1896 faktisch stattfand, arrangiert. Eines der Bilder von der Expedition mit dem Polarschiff zum Nordpol in der Zeit 24. Juni 1893 bis 13. August 1896. Nach dem Plan sollte das Schiff im Eis mit den Meeresströmungen von der sibirischen Küsten über den Nordpol nach Grönland treiben. Im März 1895 unternahm Fridtjof Nansen zusammen mit einem Begleiter einen abenteuerlichen Skimarsch mit Hundeschlitten in einem Versuch zum Polpunkt zu kommen.
