Title
English: Occidental Hotel, Seattle, ca. 1898
Description
English:

The Occidental Hotel (not to be confused with its earlier namesake that was destroyed in the 1889 fire) was on the northwest corner of 3rd Avenue and Cherry Street. The building, built immediately after the Great Fire, was originally known as the Seattle Block. It and the New York Block visible to its rear were razed for the construction of the Dexter Horton Building. On the ground floor was one of Seattle's oldest and most venerable businesses, Shorey Books, which at this time was run by Samuel F. Shorey, who resided in the building.

Original photo by Anders Wilse was acquired by Webster & Stevens. Signs in image: Carpenter Shop. Simpson Sign Co. - Signs. Occidental Hotel. Shorey's Old Book Store - Old Books Bought & Exchanged. Bonney & [A...] [Undertakers]. Handwritten on sleeve: Occidental Hotel.
