English: At the request of the Government of Ethiopia, Mr. George Byrd (UNESCO expert) was sent to advise and assist in the establishment of a national music programme. This programme includes, in particular, the establishment of a national school of music, a national symphony orchestra and the teaching of music in schools. Conductor George Byrd with the orchestra he created.
Français : A la demande du Gouvernement éthiopien, un expert, M. George Byrd, a été envoyé par l'UNESCO pour aider par ses conseils à l'établissement d'un programme national d'éducation musicale. Ce programme comprend la construction d'une Ecole nationale de musique, la création d'un orchestre symphonique national et l'enseignement de la musique dans les écoles.
