Description
English: Parodic obituary published in the newspaper El Porvenir, on the occasion of the then recent appointment by the Dictatorship of Primo de Rivera of Alfonso Torres López as mayor of Cartagena. It refers to the new mayor as an enemy of the caciquismo and its corruption (represented allegorically in the baby bottle), due to its link with a regime considered heir of the regenerationist movement.

The text reads:

The endless Order of the Municipal Baby Bottle has stopped feeding itself at the expense of the community, victim of the appointment of an anti-caciquismo mayor.

His stabbed widow Doña Escuálida Municipal; the troubled tutors Don José [García Vaso?], Don Julio [Mínguez Molero?] and Don Diego [González Martínez?]; his cousin Don Pueblo de Cartagena (absent until now from the council administration); the inconsolable Empresa Consumera; the afflicted contractors of demolitions, roads and paving; the sore possessors of expired plates; and other chupopters from caciquismo.

When participating in such unfortunate misfortune, they implore a remembrance (if possible in cash) for the unfathomable swallowings of the deceased.

May the earth rest lightly on her!

Español: Esquela paródica publicada en el diario El Porvenir, con motivo del entonces reciente nombramiento por la dictadura de Primo de Rivera de Alfonso Torres López como alcalde de Cartagena. En ella se alude al nuevo alcalde como un enemigo del caciquismo y su corrupción –representada alegóricamente en el biberón–, debido a su vínculo con un régimen considerado heredero del movimiento regeneracionista.

En el texto se lee:

La interminable Orden del Biberón Municipal ha dejado de nutrirse a costa del vecindario, víctima del nombramiento de un alcalde anticaciquil.

Su apuñalada viuda doña Escuálida Municipal; los atribulados tutores don José [García Vaso?], don Julio [Mínguez Molero?] y don Diego [González Martínez?]; primo don Pueblo de Cartagena (ausente hasta ahora de la administración concejil); la inconsolable Empresa Consumera; los afligidísimos contratistas de derribos, carreteras y adoquinado; los doloridos poseedores de láminas caducadas; y demás chupópteros del caciquismo.

Al participar desgracia tan indigesta suplican un recuerdo (a ser posible en efectivo) por las insondables tragaderas de la finada.
