"'I say, Cap!'", illustration from "A Peep at Washoe" by J. Ross Browne, in Harper's Monthly Magazine, December 1860. Prospector en route to the Washoe Valley silver mines waking Browne at a miserable lodging on the trail. This would be while in California en route to the Washoe Valley in what is now Nevada (then the Utah Territory). This particular image is not as clean as the others in Category:A Peep at Washoe. I'm afraid someone doodled on my copy (some time in the last century-and-a half); I've done my best to clean it. |
