The Royal Chronicle of Siam: British Museum Version...[is found in] a western-paper manuscript written in black ink. A history note states the manuscript was donated to the British Museum, London, England, by J. Hurst Hayes Esq. on 31 May AD 1948 (2491 BE). This document was later found in 2501 BE [1958 CE] by Mr Khachon Sukkhaphanit, who had its first and last volumes microfilmed and sent to the Fine Arts Department for consideration, and the Fine Arts Department then directed him to have all the thirty volumes microfilmed [and sent to it]...

The preamble of this royal chronicle states that the chronicle was presented to King Phutthayotfa Chulalok the Great by the Prince of the Front Palace ([later] King Phutthaloetla Naphalai, King Rama II) on 11 January 2350 BE [1808 CE]...

This royal chronicle is different from the other royal chronicles. The beginning part of this royal chronicle, which resembles the Royal Chronicle of the North, deals with...the events prior to the founding of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The chronicle then describes the founding of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya and records subsequent events until the year 2327 BE [1784/85 CE], which was the third year of the reign of King Phutthayotfa Chulalok the Great. This part mostly resembles the Royal Chronicle: Somdet Phra Phonnarat Version (printed edition). The differences exist only in figures of years, proper names, and trivialities. As for the events in the reign of the King of Thon Buri, the contents resemble the Royal Chronicle of the Kingdom of Thon Buri: Phan Channumat (Choem) Version. The end of [this] royal chronicle...contains a statement saying "The thirtieth volume of the chronicle royally composed ends [here]", which indicates that this royal chronicle is a work composed by King Phutthayotfa Chulalok the Great.
