Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_67679_20181028_095157.jpg Notes: בתקופה הביזנטית שימש המתחם בתור הquotפורום רומאנוםquot של איליה קפיטולינה. בתקופה הצלבנית שלטו במתחם אנשי המסדר ההוספיטלרי שבנו במקום אכסניה כנסייה ובית חולים. מבנה בית חולים היה ממוקם בחלקו הדרומי של המתחם. זהו מבנה קמרונות ארוך המקביל לרחוב דוד שחלקו שרד. בית החולים הוקם עוד לפני הכיבוש הצלבני של ירושלים על ידי עולי רגל נוצרים מאיטליה וברשות השלטון המוסלמי. על פי חלק מהתעודות בבית החולים היו כ-2000 מיטות. לאחר כיבוש ירושלים בידי צלאח א-דין הוקם בשטח בית החולים ההוספיטלרי בית חולים לפגועי נפש.
