Gedera was founded in 1884 by members of the Bilu group (Isaiah 2:5 Beit Yaakov Lekhu Venelkha - House of Jacob, let us go up). Origin of the name Gedera is in the Book of Chronicles I 4:23 They were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah.

Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_71676_20200828_115713_2_2.jpg Notes: המושבה הוקמה כיישוב שיתופי על-ידי קבוצת בילויים בשנת 1884 שסבלו תלאות במקומות שונים והיחידה שהוקמה על-ידי אנשי בילו בית יעקב לכו ונלכה. בשנת 1949 הוכרזה למועצה מקומית. מקור השם גדרה בספר דברי הימים א פרק ד פסוק כג הֵמָּה הַיּוֹצְרִים וְיֹשְ�בֵי נְטָעִים וּגְדֵרָה. בור הבילויים - האורווה שנבנתה לסוסים נחשבה למבנה והגג נהרס על ידי השלטונות העותמאנים. בהתערבות פרנסי הקהילה הם הורשו להשלים את הגג מעל הבור ועברו לגור בו עם הסוסים. לאחר מספר שנים קיבלו רישיון לבנות בתים.
