Polarfartyget ANTARTIC i Göteborgs hamn
Description
Fartyget sett snett förifrån, liggandes vid kaj i Göteborgs hamn. Inga segel uppe, signalflaggor i alla masterna samt många åskådare på kajen. Fotografiet är taget omkring 1901, innan det begav sig ut på sin expedition till Antarktis._x000D__x000D_ANTARCTIC byggdes 1871 i Drammen i Norge och hette då CAP NOR. 1893 köptes hon från Sören S. Svendsen i Drammen av AB Antarctic (Svend Foyn) i Tönsberg och döptes då om till ANTARCTIC. 1901 köpte Otto Nordenskjöld fartyget genom Svenska Sydpolsexpeditionen, Stockholm, och fartyget kom sen att användas av Otto under den av honom ledda expeditionen till Sydpolen 1902-03. _x000D__x000D_12 februari 1903 blev ANTARCTIC sönderskruvad och krossad av isen vid Louis Phillipis Land. Besättningen räddades.
