Description

Ten years ago I sailed as a passenger on the Polsteam bulk freighter "Isolda" on a five week voyage from Port Talbot in Wales to Thunder Bay in Canada across the Atlantic Ocean and up the St Lawrence River and Seaway into the North American Great Lakes. In this picture "Isolda" has just arrived at the Port of Cleveland and the mobile cranes that will unload her cargo of steel coils can be seen.

For those visiting on ships, the Port of Cleveland is very handy to the city. Within a short walk from the dock gates it was easy to get to the city's amenities such as the Library and Post Office. We had a few days to spend there and I was able to visit the historic Lake Freighter "William G Mather" as well as ascend the Terminal Tower to the 42nd floor viewing gallery and take a bus to the edge of town to ride on the Cuyahoga Scenic Railway. It's a nice city - I wonder shall I ever return there? I hope that I do some day.
