Description
English: Portraits of the kings Abia and Asa Visual depiction of the kings Judah (title on object). Taken from Den Grooten Emblemata Sacra, consisting of more than four hundred Biblical figures, such as the ancients as well as the New Testaments.

Two Kings of Judah; Abijah of Judah and his son and successor Asa of Judah.

The image on the left hand side is unidentified, possibly a Pope.

The image on the right hand side is that of John III of Portugal curca 1535, not a portrait of Steven van der Hagen. To spare time and costs book printers used the same print multiple times for different publications.[1]

Toelichting
Beide portretten werden oorspronkelijk uitgegeven door Nicolaes de Clerck in de periode 1610-1625. In de jaren zestig van de zeventiende eeuw werd het portret van Johannes III van Portugal nog eens gebruikt door de Amsterdamse uitgever Gillis Joosten Saeghman als afbeelding van admiraal Steven van der Hagen.
