English: Public art „Trebatsch-Leichhardt-Australien“ in Trebatsch, a part of the municipality Tauche in the District Oder-Spree, Brandenburg, Germany. The monumental picture is situated in opposite of the Leichhardtplatz (Leichhardtplace)/village church. It was made in 2013 to celebrate the 200. birthday of the Australia-explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, who was born here. The disappearance of Leichhardts expedition-team in 1848 remains a mystery. According to the information board the picture shows in the left part the home Leichhardts with its typical trees, the river Spree and the church. The portrait with window-view symbolizes his audacity and courage, to leave the constriction of his home and to explore the unknown country in the south. Under direction of the artists Karl-Heinz Scharf and Silvio Hilgenfeld the painting was created by the schoolgirls Franka Haase, Elisabeth Hilgenfeld, Dominice Seidel, Johanna Stahmann and Alexandra Matern. |
