railroad station in Marion

Summary

edit
Description
English: The Marion Union Station was constructed in 1902 and replaced the previous passenger "station", which was a run-down railroad passenger car surrounded by mud. The station saw heavy use for decades. Passenger train use in America declined with construction of the nationwide interstate highway system. After being shut down in the 1970s, Marion Union Station was boarded up. Criminals broke in and stole marble facing stones from the ticket counter area. The station has since been restored as a museum and is open to the public on some days. Railroad artifacts and memorabilia are on display in most of the complex.
