English: "Red Robbo", a 1987 Austin Rover Maestro City 500 diesel van hits the road for the first time in 20 years – seen refuelling at Sparkford Services near Yeovil on its "maiden voyage" after £3,500 worth of work and respray by Mark Cannon at Compton Dunton Garage in Somerset. Safely back in Essex, the van will now be restored with replacement Royal Mail graphics typical of it's earlier working life in the Preston area. It cruised quite happily along the M3, M25 and M11 at 80–85 mph with no obvious problems other than a failed interior light and a loose drivers side wing mirror. It joins the collection of the Colne Valley Postal History Museum, near Braintree, Essex, UK. See www.cvphm.org.uk for details. |
