Description

"The deeds of the divine Augustus, by which he subjected the whole world to the Roman people..."

This is a modern copy of an ancient inscription about (and mostly written by) the emperor Augustus. I found it very impressive because it seemed to suggest that the modern Romans hold Augustus in immense esteem so that they want everybody to know about him in his own words. This is a wall of the building surrounding the Ara Pacis (which I didn't get to see); it was designed by the American architect Richard Meier.
