| Description | Das vergessene mittelalterliche Bild: Im Jahr 2003 wurde dieses Bild in der Marienkirche bei Bauarbeiten gefunden. Es diente als Grundplatte für ein barockes Gemälde des Abendmahls. Die Leinwand des Barockbildes war auf das Tafelbild aufgenagelt und verdeckte somit das heute Sichtbare. Seit der Barockzeit wusste niemand mehr, dass das Bild mit dem Motiv des Christus als Schmerzensmann vorhanden ist. Das Mittelalterbild wurde vergessen. Auch der Zusammenhang des wohl aus dem 15. Jahrhundert stammenden Bildes ist unklar. Das Bild auf Eichenbohlen wurde beschnitten und vor etwa 100 Jahren mit einem neuen Rahmen versehen. War es eine Predella, Bestandteil des Hauptaltars oder ein Einzelbild? Ohne Zweifel gehört es aber in die Marienkirche. Auch unsachgemäße Lagerung führte zu Verlusten an der Malschicht. Mit Spenden des Ortskuratoriums Rostock der Deutschen Stiftung Denkmalschutz und des Fördervereins "Stiftung St.-Marien-Kirche zu Rostock e.V." wurde das Bild 2011 durch die Restauratoren Mannewitz und Vormelker konserviert.
