Description
English: (American Freighter, 1917) Probably photographed prior to her World War I era Naval service. This commercial steamship was taken over by the Navy, under charter, on 19 February 1918 and placed in commission as USS Choctaw (ID # 1648) on 4 March 1918. She was decommissioned on 16 January 1919 and returned to her owners. Photograph from the Bureau of Ships Collection in the U.S. National Archives.
