Pfarrkirche „St. Laurentius“ // Vorgängerin der Pfarrkirche „St. Laurentius“ ist eine frühe, an der gleichen Stelle erbaute Heiligkreuzkapelle, die der Mutterkirche „St. Laurentius“, ca. 2 km nördlich von Saarburg gelegen, unterstellt war. // Bereits 1368 wird die Kapelle St. Laurentius-Kirche genannt. Die erlangte nach und nach die Bedeutung einer Pfarrkirche. Den Anfang zu dieser Entwicklung bildete die Erteilung des Taufrechts durch Erzbischof Kuno von Falkenstein im Jahre 1370. Veranlassung dazu gab die große Entfernung zur Mutterkirche sowie die seit der Stadtrechteverleihung (1291) stark angewachsene Zahl der Saarburger Bürgerschaft. 1426 stiftete die Bürgerschaft die Frühmesse und erhielt so einen eigenen Geistlichen für Saarburg. // 1563 wurde auf der Südseite des Westturms ein zweiter Turm angebaut. // 1658 wurde die auf inzwischen zwei Flügel und drei Schiffe erweiterte Kirche von Weihbischof Verhorst eingeweiht. // Unter dem Hochaltar befand sich die Gruft des Freiherrn von Marsberg. // 1803 wurde Saarburg Kantonspfarrei und die St. Laurentiuskirche erhielt als Pfarrkirche Selbständigkeit. // 1854/55 enstand ein neugotischer Bau in Nord-Süd-Richtung, in den nur der alte zweihelmige Doppelturm einbezogen wurde; dazu stiftete König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. die Chorfenster. // Am 23. Dezember 1944 wurde bei einem Bombenangriff, der der Saarbrücke galt, auch die Kirche zur Hälfte zerstört. Die Holzbalkendecke und die walzenförmigen Säulen erinnern an den Wiederaufbau von 1946 bis 1949. // Drei Glocken aus dem Jahre 1773 und eine von 1962 wurden in der Saarburger Glockengießerei gegossen. Die Traubenmadonna (15. Jh.), das Altarbild „Kreuzabnahme" (1790, von Louis Counet) sowie die Marsberg-Epitaphe stammen aus der alten Kirche. Das moderne Kreuz im Chor, die Madonna im linken Seitenschiff, die Kreuzwegstationen, das Weihwasserbecken und das Taufbecken in der Taufkapelle schuf der Künstler Eugen Keller aus Höhr-Grenzhausen. // Gestiftet vom Heimatverein „Saarstrand“ im Jahre 1980
