Part of plate Plate 20, Insurance Maps of Seattle, Washington, Volume 1, Sanborn Map Company, 1904. This is one of a series of images from this and other nearby pages showing great detail of the Pioneer Square neighborhood at this date. This image shows the block south of Yesler Way, north of S Washington Street, east of Second Avenue S, and west of Third Avenue S. Few of these buildings survive as of 2008; the building at lower left was taken out when Second Avenue Extension was put through circa 1929, and the building next to it, which in 1904 was home to Chin Gee Hee's Quong Tuck Companym had a corner cut off, but it remains. The upper right here is now the location of the Frye Hotel / Frye Apartment building. This is a raw image of a plastic-covered document: some reflections and also some shadow. |
