Summary edit

Description

Maunsell's 4-4-0 masterpiece. Built from 1930-34 the class V's were all named after public schools and upon scrapping most of the nameplates were given to the respective schools !!! Fortunately three survived into preservation, Repton, Stowe and Cheltenham. Their power for their size is well renowned. They were a cut down version of the Lord Nelsons for use on lines with a lower loading gauge and yet proved to have a comparable tractive effort. Captured here at the Autumn Gala on the Severn Valley Railway, Cheltenham is beautiful.
