Description
Dezember 2008 in New York City, New York, USA), der vom 18. 30. Januar 1920 in Hamburg; gest. 5.
English: Group picture referring to male teamsports of progressive boarding school Schule am Meer (School by the Sea) on the beach of the East Frisian island Juist in Prussia. The teacher (2nd from left, standing) is Friedrich "Fritz" Könekamp (born February 15, 1897 in Offenburg, Baden), after emigration named as Frederick Edward Konekamp, who was working at S.a.M. from August 1, 1928 to March 1, 1932. Compared with the documented data of the pictured student Klaus Philipp Bamberger (born on 23 September, 1920 in Bamberg, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, German Reich; deceased on 23 December, 2008 in New York City, New York, USA), after emigration named as Claude P. Bamberger, who is kneeling on the far left with crossed arms this photo can be dated to 1931. He, the son of industrialist and arts collector Otto Bamberger attended S.a.M. from April 18, 1931 to December 17, 1933 to leave prematurely in order to attend a boarding school in Switzerland. – Most on this picture do wear the white school sports shirt with a triangular dark patch that contains the brightly contrasted initials of the boarding school's name. – In front of the back row of taller students, two medium-sized students stand close together in the center of the picture; the one on the left is Ernst Heinz Joseph Halberstadt (born on November 19, 1912 in Frankfurt am Main, German Reich; deceased on August 18, 1997 in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, USA), called "Nepo", after emigration named as Ernest J. Halstead. The 3rd from the right of the kneeling, sitting and crouching pupils is Hagen Distelbarth (1918–1941), a son of the entrepreneur and journalist Paul Distelbarth (1879–1963), the 4th from the right Fritz Schindler (born 30 January, 1920 in Hamburg; deceased 5 February 2016 in Strasbourg, France), after emigration named as Frederick „Fritz“ Charles Schindler, a son of shipping company owner Julius Schindler (born 30 May, 1878 in Mährisch-Trübau, Austria-Hungary; deceased 20 December, 1941 in Great Neck, New York, USA).
