Item 180712, Engineering Department Slides (Record Series 2613-08), Seattle Municipal Archives. English: Looking south on Occidental Ave S. from Yesler Way, Seattle, Washington, U.S., 1922. At far left is the building now known as the Interurban Building. Most of the buildings in the middle ground at left were lost in the 1949 earthquake; that is now (2018) the site of the Weyerhaueser building. Similarly, the Star Theatre and the hotel beyond it lost their upper stories in the '49 quake and are now one-story buildings, and the ones beyond them are gone, also lost to the quake, and that is now the site of Occidental Park. Farther along, almost lost in haze here, are the buildings still standing along the now-pedestrianized Occidental Mall. |
