Description

Edward William Brooke III was laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on March 10th, 2015. He was the first African American in U.S. history to win popular election to the Senate, serving as Massachusetts Senator from 1967 – 1979. Brooke served in the U.S. Military during World War II as a member of the segregated 366th Infantry Regiment, earning the Bronze Star. In 2009 Brooke was awarded the Congressional Gold Metal, the highest award Congress has to honor civilians.

Arlington National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400,000 American heroes.
