Deze foto's zijn gemaakt bij gelegenheid van de toewijzing van Elten en omgeving aan Nederland, ingaande op 23 april 1949. Dit was een onderdeel van de zogenaamde herstelbetalingen die Duitsland Nederland schuldig was na de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Op 1 augustus 1963 werd het gebied weer terug gegeven aan Duitsland.
