Signaller Arthur Thorn served with 'C' Company, 27 Battalion, 7 Brigade, Australian Imperial Force. His service number was 2238. He set sail from Australia on 20 September 1915 with the fourth reinforcement of troops, reaching France on 18 April 1916. He was wounded on 5 August 1916 during the Second Battle of Pozières and spent three weeks in Étaples Hospital before rejoining his unit. He was recorded as missing on 5 November 1916, aged 30. It was reported that he was left badly wounded with others in a German trench and assumed he was either taken prisoner or died. He was married with a young child.
