Español: El sílex es muy duro y óptimo para la fabricación de herramientas mediante el trabajo de talla. Su modo de fractura es previsible, lo cual favorece la manufactura de distintos tipos de útiles ajustándose a las intenciones del tallador. Por ello, fue uno de los recursos más utilizados en la prehistoria.
