| Description |
Nederlands: Volwassen elzenvliegen leven van nectar en worden meestal zittend op oevervegetatie gevonden. Het zijn zwakke vliegers; bij verstoring vliegen ze op maar gaan een eindje verder weer zitten in plaats van weg te vliegen. De larven leven onder water van kleine diertjes en lijken wel op een duizendpoot vanwege de vele, poot-achtige tracheeënkieuwen aan het achterlijf. Het zijn goede zwemmers die tweemaal overwinteren voordat verpopping plaatsvindt. Dit gebeurt op het land, na ongeveer een week komt de pop uit.
English: Adult elderflies live from nectar and are usually found on shore vegetation. They are poor fliers ; When disturbed, they fly up and go down a little further rather than fly away. The larvae live, under the water, of small animals and resemble a centipede because of the many, paw-like trachea gills at the back. They are good swimmers who overwinter twice before mowing takes place. This happens on the land, after about a week the pop comes out. |
