Summary
editDescriptionSouth Hylton Metro station 04.jpg |
English: A merged view of the main shelter and ticket machine area at South Hylton station - the southern terminus of the Tyne and Wear Metro Yellow line. This station was purpose built for the opening on 31 March 2002 of the Metro extension from Pelaw to Sunderland along tracks shared with mainline trains, and then to this station over part of the long disused former mainline to Durham. Although still owned by Network Rail, the section from Sunderland is served only by the Metro.
At present South Hylton is served by 5 trains per hour, but poor patronage between here and University station means that operator Nexus plans to cut this by 50% from December 2005. The system diagram on the wall to the left is the standard since the opening of the extension. South Hylton is the yellow-boxed station at the bottom. |
