DescriptionSphalerite Straws.jpg |
The following is the author's description of the photograph quoted directly from the photograph's Flickr page. "Unusual ore specimen from Pine Point Mines, Northwest Territories. It was collected from a rockpile, so any details of 'in situ' are lost. Yet the brown sphalerite (zinc sulphide) shapes are suggestive of 'cave straws', albeit of irregular form, surrounded by white crystalline calcite and abutting grey limestone wallrock. Specimen is 13 cm or about 5 inches long. " |
