Description

*See full size Image for detail*

A stained glass window in Christ Church Russell, New Zealand’s oldest surviving church, Christ Church, Russell, began its life as a simple, square Georgian chapel. In 1871 it was extensively altered to become a Victorian Gothic wooden church typical of the later nineteenth century. Despite the changes, it is considered one of New Zealand’s most historic buildings. Many old memorials in the churchyard tell the history of the Bay of Islands in the early years of Maori-European contact.
