Description

An early morning panoramic view of Mount Taranaki's summit (2518 m) taken across the crater from the Sharks Tooth (2510 m). On the left of the photograph is a cloudy Fanthams Peak (1966 m) and the sparse Rangitoto Flat.

I ascended the mountain in the dark with my camera equipment and was treated to a spectacular sunrise over the distant Mount Ruapehu from Taranaki's summit peak. When I climbed up the Sharks Tooth I discovered a small Flag of Denmark flying from the highest point and written on the flag pole were the names Stig Thrane and Kaare Thrane along with the date "29/3-12". It would appear the Danes secured a wee bit of New Zealand territory for a few hours. :o)

This panorama is composed from a sequence of photographs and stitched together in Adobe Photoshop.
