Summary edit
DescriptionThe Church of St John the Baptist, Chirton - geograph.org.uk - 1741813.jpg |
English: The Church of St John the Baptist, Chirton Chirton is an ancient village. The name itself is Saxon for 'Farm by the Church'. This church was consecrated on St John the Baptist's Day in 1170, the same year that Thomas a Becket was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral. The church is open most of the time, or at least it was when I visited. A joy to visit on a fine albeit cold day like today. I consider myself fortunate that this is the first appearance of this church on Geograph. |
