English: A view of the H.C. Ship General Goddard, Captn. W.T. Money, passing along the enemy's line to bring the Dutch Commodore to, at sunrise, in the morning of the 14th. of June 1795

  • Het nemen van de VOC-vloot door schepen van de Engelse East-India Company. De zeven VOC-schepen die door de Engelsen werden genomen waren de ‘Vrouwe Agatha’, ‘Dordwijk’, Meermin’, ‘Mentor’, ‘Sucheance’, ‘Zeelelie’ en de ‘Alblasserdam’. De schepen werden prijs gemaakt (gekaapt) en opgebracht naar Shannon, Ierland. Enkele schepen zijn onderweg vergaan, te weten de ‘Dordwijk’, ‘Surcheance’ en de ‘Zeelelie’. 1795 Was het laatste jaar waarin er VOC-schepen vanuit de Oost naar Patria kwamen. Het schilderij markeert daarmee het einde van de roemrijke Compagnie.
