I created the files you claim are copyrighted!Edit

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 AnnouncementEdit

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!Edit

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

You are receiving this message because you voted in the 2012 Picture of the Year contest.

FelicitadoEdit

Dear Jan Arkesteijn, Congrats: you uploaded well over 10,000 photographs to Wikimedia Commons during 11 years of hard work, and all photographs are very useful, and are used in numerous articles. Thank you very wiki much! Vysotsky (talk) 19:54, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Dear Vysotsky, thank you very much. And the same to you, because you are doing the same for about 6 years now. Keep up the good work!. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 14:37, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

As the Old Sing, So the Young PipeEdit

Hello I believe that this painting of Jordaens is not in Ottawa but in Valenciennes (Musée des beaux-arts). The version of "As the Old Sing, So the Young Pipe" in the National Gallery of Canada should be this. Check your sources too. Thank you--Never covered (talk) 13:31, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

That maybe so, but I only specified the origin of the image, not the location of the painting. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 13:45, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

File:Umberto Agnelli en Dante Giacosa (1970).jpgEdit

Hi. What's the problem? This is the only and original version of the file, from the Nationaal Archief NL: this is the version who i uploaded in the late days, not your (wrong) cropped version uploaded in 2014. Your version is problematic, because first you should upload the originale files, and only after its cropped version --Danyele (talk) 15:18, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Upload it as a different file, please. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 15:40, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
You can write something else, as well as «upload it as a different file, please»? Please, you can respond on the merits of my message? --Danyele (talk) 20:05, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Look, if you want to overwrite a file, why don't you overwrite this one. It is, following your reasoning, just as "problematic". Thank you. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 21:12, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Are you serius? From my point of view, the facts are quite clear: I uploaded the exact version made available by the Nationaal Archief NL — the original version, released under that license in voice —, and only after I have correctly drawn different versions cropped. You and only you, reverted to a (your) problematic version: the Nationaal Archief NL have probably released under Creative Commons license only the (your) cropped version, and not the original one? And above all, what is the way to keep an incomplete version of a photo, when the full version is available? Maybe we should go to investigate it at the village pump, in front of the whole community... --Danyele (talk) 19:38, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Maybe that is the best place to talk about it. Please, stop threatening. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 21:43, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Jan, this is the original version. Any other version should be a cropped one and derivate from it. This is not the cropped version. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:40, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear all, I really don't understand what the fuss is all about. Jan Arkesteijn uploaded a cropped version of a photograph of the Dutch National Archives / Anefo. The license of that collection is CC-BY, as you can see here. The license CC-BY clearly indicates that remixing and transforming is allowed. The original picture, which I now also uploaded to Commons -as an example is clearly a failure (not the car, but the far left side of the photo), so the uploader was right to use a cropped version -and he rightfully did so. If you then afterwords would like to include the original picture, nobody will stop you doing so -but please upload it as a separate entry. Vysotsky (talk) 21:46, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

@User:Natuur12, User:Steinsplitter, User:Davey2010. This is going to far. Both the files Steinsplitter is complaining about are in the category Category:Faded color photographs. They are there to be reworked. And of course, Fae is all to happy to throw in a list that displays me as a perpetrator. But if you go through that list you will see it that these are files I uploaded myself, or files that were obviously in error. This decision seems to be driven by hatred. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 16:53, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
I have the feeling that you are trying to play the system, the edit restriction does not allow you to overwrite other users files for reasons mentioned in a very long discussion months ago. --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:06, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
User:Steinsplitter, I mean this. the two files you complain about are in a category Faded photographs. The list Fae added show images of myself, I did not overwrite other users files anymore. Except reverts to a state when chosen as featured, or an erroneous overwrite of a painting with a print. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 17:21, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
A edit restriction applies for a reason. In this case because a significant amount off overwrites were against policy. This also prevents valid overwrites but there is no way to prevent some collateral damage. Since the violations of our policies were structural the community decided to place an edit restriction to protect Commons from further disrupting. This sanction is pretty clear. You are no longer allowed to overwrite files other than your own regardless of the reason. You violated your edit restriction and therefor you are blocked. Not out of hatred but because you refuse to refrain from overwriting files. Using ad hominem to bring others in discredit is distasteful and dishonourable. Natuur12 (talk) 18:13, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
  • You were put on a edit restriction and that restriction applies for a reason, If you disagree with it then I would suggest you log off and find a new hobby otherwise you'll have to live by and abide by the restriction,
Natuur12 was extremely lenient - Had I been the admin I would've blocked you for an entire year,
The ER is extremely simple and isn't hard to grasp but anyway if you ignore this restriction again I would welcome a longer block. –Davey2010Talk 18:43, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
