Summary
editDescriptionThe Massachusetts Constitution - Written by John Adams, at his ancestral home in Massachusetts.jpg |
English: John Adams, sitting in the room shown in this picture, at the home where he and Abigail raised their children outside of Boston, next to the house he was born in, created and wrote the Massachusetts Constitution with his own pen, in 1780.
Leveraging his very large understanding of British history, the Magna Carta and his own experience, Adams created the model upon which the US Constitution was constructed in 1787. Arguably the most important document in human history, the Massachusetts Constitution defined a truly representative, by the people, form of government founded on freedom of religion. The photograph here is not exceptional photography. But, the document shown in this photograph sits in the ancestral house where John Adams penned the Massachusetts Constitution alone, with his own hand, in tiny writing. In this room we can imagine seeing him writing, thinking, creating our future. Adams, sitting alone in the house, and pulling from his broad experience in law, English history, the Magna Carta, and his understanding of fairness, created a document that was then used in 1787 as the model upon which the US Constitution would be formed. Hence, Adams, and the document in this photograph, were the birth of true Democracy. Today, this document is of utmost importance. Just as it has always been. |
