DescriptionTombs jewish soldiers Vilnius.jpg |
English: This picture is here for it's story.
Upon rediscovery of this World War I & II military graveyard, where many German troops who fought in the vicinity of Vilnius were buried. The German government quickly arranged for a team of german soldiers to arrive at Vilnius and erect monuments for all the buried german soldiers, of whom they kept strict records. Most of them are tombs carrying crosses, but as it turns out, there were also jewish soldiers fighting for Germany. And so the germans, even now, havn't forgotten them, and so there are 4 tombs (three of which are pictured above) and Shields of David on them. (The hebrew caption reads: "In memorial of the jewish soldiers who were killed in World War I. Always remembered.") Vilnius, Lithuania. |
