Description
English: Detachment under tonic shock.
          Giardia  cells are imaged in phase contrast at 100X in real time. The video shows cells attached to glass as they are exposed to hypotonic growth medium (196 mOsm/kg below normal growth medium). Two of the three cells detach under this change in tonicity. However, flagellar waveforms and cell morphology are not noticeably affected during detachment.
