Giardia cells are imaged in phase contrast at 100X in real time. The video shows cells attached to glass as they are exposed to hypotonic growth medium (196 mOsm/kg below normal growth medium). Two of the three cells detach under this change in tonicity. However, flagellar waveforms and cell morphology are not noticeably affected during detachment.(3.44 MB MOV) |
