Description Transistor radios spread quickly across the world after their introduction in October 1954. The first commercially practical transistor radio, the Regency TR-1, was announced on October 18, 1954 by the Regency Division of I.D.E.A.. It was put on sale in November 1954. Less than 11 years later, transistor radios were being used across the world.
